I'm taking a quick break from my blogging sabbatical to share this Polina Dress I made for the Coffee + Thread Pattern tour! My friend Olga, designer of Coffee + Thread Patterns, has been super busy designing gorgeous new patterns and I'm thrilled to be part of her tour. I've known her for several years now and she's become a good friend in that time. I love how detailed and meticulous her patterns are - you won't be disappointed and you'll probably learn something new. Make sure to visit the other tour participants because you don't want to miss all of the awesome creations Also, during the tour you can save 20% off all patterns in the Coffee + Threads shop with code coffeeandthreadtour and there is also a fun giveaway you can enter. You'll find the giveaway and links below.
As I mentioned, I made the Polina Dress. I made a few mods to the pattern based on a dress I saw on Pinterest. Instead of a separate bodice and skirt, I adjusted the bodice pattern to create a swing dress. I extended the button placket to the bottom of the dress but only the top 4 buttons are functional. There aren't enough hours in the day for sewing a billion buttonholes!! I also added some mini pom pom trim to the frills. I've had it in my stash for ages and finally found the right project for it.
Fabrics. . . the main fabric was something I found at Hobby Lobby of all places. It's a gauzy lightweight cotton lawn type fabric and it is extremely sheer. I lined the dress with white cotton lawn but it was still a bit on the sheer side so I ended up making a slip to go under the dress. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with a more stable, less sheer fabric that would be easier to sew with. It will definitely make for a great summer dress since it's so breezy!
