My good friend and talented designer Olga of Coffee + Thread recently released a new sewing pattern, the Eleena Dress; and I'm participating in her pattern tour! I haven't sewn any clothes for my sweet girl in ages so this was a perfect opportunity to remedy that. The Eleena dress has a definite vintage feel and features an inverted pleat in the front, an optional collar, an invisible zipper closure, and 3 sleeve options - a long, cuffed sleeve, a short sleeve, and a flutter sleeve. I chose to make a short sleeved version minus the collar to keep things on the casual side. I also added a button placket and shortened the dress to a tunic length. My fabric choice - Swifting Flora Voile in Swell by Maureen Cracknell.
This was my first time installing an invisible zipper and it wasn't nearly as daunting as I'd imagined! The pattern instructions take you through the process step by step so don't be scared to give it a try. The end result is garment that is beautifully finished inside and out. All in all the dress comes together pretty quickly and would make a perfect Easter dress! The pattern will be on sale for $7 (regularly priced at $9) through March 7th at 11:59 PM EST.
Make sure to stop by and visit the other tour bloggers for more ideas and inspiration! You can also enter the giveaway below for a chance to win 2 patterns of choice from Coffee + Thread and a yard of fabric. Good luck!

Such a beautiful version and I love your button detail. And how on earth have you avoided installing an invisible zipper until now...that's impressive :-) And you did (of course) great! Photos as always - stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mie! I'm not sure either. . . guess I've shied away from patterns that called for it. Which is silly because I love zippers!
DeleteLove your version, Vanessa. And your pics of course. Always do...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
DeleteWhat a stunning dress/tunic, Vanessa!! I love it so much! Gorgeous fabric! And I really love the front detail! Syd is such a beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteVanessa~ As with everything you do, this is simply stunning! I have this exact fabric on my sewing table right now, so maybe I'm biased. I love what you did to the front...all my future Eleena's will have a row of buttons now! Did you topstitch the (I think) flat piping in place? Maybe a tutorial is in order here!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I actually made regular piping to use but couldn't get it to look neat enough so I ended up making some narrow double fold bias tape and used that instead. I stitched it on the front of the placket and folded it over to the back and left it unfolded to reduce bulk. I also used a lapel stick to glue the tape down in the back so that it was easier to sew!
DeleteSo lovely! Did you add your own little button placket? Gorgeous pictures too!
ReplyDeletethat button placket looks so great! And I love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous tunic on a gorgeous girl. The placket is such a lovely detail. Lovely fabric makes the tunic look dressy and yet paired up with leggings and a comfy cardi it looks perfect for every day wear :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the button placket; what a fun detail. And the fabric is beautiful too. The colors really bring out Syd's eyes. <3
