I got to sew up some cute and easy knit tops for the kiddo! I used an awesome pattern by imagine gnats - the tumble tee - as part of her pattern tour. The pattern includes options for making a top or a dress as well as fun color blocked versions as well as multiple seam finishing options. It is suitable for beginners and includes pattern pieces for sizes 6 months to 10 years. I'll be sewing these for years to come!
I really wanted to use these striped knits my mom brought me from Germany during her last visit so I stuck with the simple version. The sleeves are built in and I used a twin needle to finish off the neckline, the sleeves, and the hem. The pattern is very straightforward so you really can't go wrong. I really do love the clean + modern lines of the finished tops.

Knits are quickly becoming my go to fabric when sewing clothes. These particular knits are fairly heavy weight knit with 4 way stretch. Pretty easy to sew with compared to a lot of thinner knits. Kinda hard to see the colors here (blogger is doing something hideous to these photos that I can't figure out - sorry) but one is chocolate brown + teal and the other is red + navy.

DeleteI really should decide to go ahead and learn how to sew knits. This might be just the pattern. Everyone is saying how easy it is and how simple they sew up.... simple is good for a first time knit, right?

I love the simple lines of the tee too - those extended shoulders to form the sleeves are way easier to sew than separate sleeves but look just as good. The only problem I have is finding the right knits to use for kids clothes - good prints in the right weight are so hard to come by
ReplyDeleteLove the stripe fabric as well. This would be a great pattern to win.
