I finally decided on something to make using the awesome vintage bird fabric I found a few weeks ago! I knew I wanted to make a dress but couldn't decide what style. I ended up choosing this round yoke neck dress pattern I found on Etsy. I like that it's simple enough to really focus on the fabulous fabric and that it has a retro look. I also got to use cool wood buttons which always makes me happy! I love the dress on its own but think it will be pretty darn cute this fall over leggings.
A few tips if you decide to give this pattern a try:
1/4" wide Stitch Witchery! Get some. I found it really helpful when creating the yoke.
Also, I made some single fold bias tape to use a facing for the armholes. Much smoother finish than trying to just fold over and hem the armholes.
Overall, it was a bit of a challenge to make-the yoke parts are kinda tricky but stick with it! Makes for a very cute dress.
It is beautiful! I love the yoke on the dress, too. I am bookmarking that pattern for future dresses. I don't know that I need anymore, but it can go on my "want" list. That fabric is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteso cute! She's really adorable in it. :)
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! I really love this fabric, and I love that you turned it into a dress!
ReplyDeleteLove the red wall in the back. What is stitch witchery? How do I use it?
ReplyDeleteIf you hadn't reminded me about finding the fabric in a thrift store I would have thought it was bought from a top fabric store! It is that good! And if you hadn't told me you made this absolutely fantastic dress, I would have thought it was bought from a designer childrens wear boutique! It's that good!
