me + my seam ripper = BFF

So, Mother's Day is coming up and my mum will actually be here visiting when that day rolls around! Instead of the usual card in the mail, I'll get to give her a gift this year (hey, postage to Germany is crazy expensive). After coming across some really nifty sewing tutorials I decided that I would try my hand at making her gifts. These will include a zippered pouch (make-up bag), a coin purse/credit card holder, and a purse to hold all the goodies. I have finished up the zippered pouch. . . that was an interesting experience. I had until this project never had any dealings with zippers in my sewing adventures. I'm not going to say it was easy, but it wasn't quite as bad as I had anticipated. Other than a few mumbled expletives, wrist pain from picking stitches, and a mild headache, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. . . and evening.

Ok, for those of you who are in need of some gifts to make for someone (or yourself!), here are some links:

  2. It's new! I took a quick look on my phone but definitely want to check it out on the big screen. Thanks.

My main issue with the zipper was topstitching around it after "installing" it. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to leave on the zipper foot (which I tried but I could not get a straight line) or use my regular one (which ended up giving me better results). I guess its one of those things that get better with practice! I hope.
