I've got another great knit sewing pattern to share with you today as well as a giveaway and coupon code for a fun freebie when you purchase this pattern by Lil Blue Boo! You'll find the giveaway info and coupon code down at the bottom of the post. So, back the pattern. . . the Sienna Dress 2.0 (available in sizes 6m - 4T and 5-14) is both beginner friendly and easily customizable for more experienced sewers. It's got raglan style sleeves which makes it a quick sew. It includes lots of options within the pattern itself and there is also an add on pattern available for flutter sleeves with more on the way. You can recycle t-shirts and make a fun, unique dress or use knit yardage. Add some freezer paper stenciling or iron ons to customize your dress for holidays and birthdays. I chose to use some knit fabric I found at Euro Girls Boutique. I was in search of a sturdy, medium weight knit and these prints fit the bill. They were very easy to sew with and will hold up to lots of wear and tear. I'd suggest avoiding really thin or drape-y fabric for this pattern.
I used my sewing machine and serger to sew up this dress but a serger is not necessary. I also used a twin needle + bulky nylon thread in the bobbin for all topstitching and for the hem. Makes things so much easier and it gives garments a polished look.
I made a size 3T/4T and kept my dress pretty simple because of the bold prints but you could easily incorporate several prints if you'd like - instructions are included in the pattern. The only change I made was making a wider hem on the skirt, simply because I wanted the dress to hit right above the knees. I love the easy fit and think it makes a great play dress. Syd wore hers to school for picture day and came home covered in dirt. Apparently it was great dress to wear for building sandcastles during PE :)

ReplyDeleteI love tiny ruffles on some things, but most ruffles at a little associate degree excessive quantity of on behalf of American state, which i prefer single-edged ruffles over ambiguous, so i would possibly leave these off too.
From viewing the pattern page, it's not straightforward to induce those ruffles aligned... the instance ruffles aren't completely straight or completely placed either.
